Male Sexual Problems

Since Viagra burst onto the scene in 1998, erectile dysfunction (or impotence) is the sexual difficulty most often talked about; but men can, in fact, experience a whole range of sexual problems. These can broadly be classified into four categories. It is important to keep in mind that the different categories often overlap; for example, many men who have trouble getting an erection will go on to develop loss of desire, in response to the anxiety and embarrassment that erectile failure can too often cause.

Lack or Loss of Sexual Desire

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Ejaculatory Difficulties

Painful Sex

Sexual Fitness for Men

Most clinics, usually screen for common physical causes of low sexual desire using blood tests carried out and offer physical treatments (such as testosterone replacement therapy) as appropriate or through your GP. Often, however,  a physical cause cannot be diagnosed; in these cases, treatment will often involve a course of an individual or couple therapy. This will aim to help the man (and, where possible, his partner uncover what might be underlying his lack of desire for sex.Sometimes, the problem may simply be a difference in levels of desire for sex between two

individuals, rather than any dysfunction as such; in this case, the couple can often learn to find a compromise that is acceptable to both. Often, this will include finding ways to make sex more enjoyable and satisfying for both partners
